Navigating the professional world is hard, and navigating it as a woman is even harder. Learning to assert yourself, how to manage staff, even how to manage your manager; they don’t teach that in school.
My first years managing people were a complete and utter dumpster fire. I was brand new at managing a business, an office, and people. I made every mistake in the book. I had no senior leadership above me, so I was left to figure things out on my own. Nothing happened the way I thought it would.
I knew how to do everything that needed to be done, but as the business grew, I could not get anyone I hired to do the job correctly. I would explain it again, and again, and again, getting increasingly more frustrated. I would end up YELLING at staff. Yes, I would actually raise my voice and have a full blown, emotion filled argument with my employee. I didn’t understand, why couldn’t people just do the things the way that I told them to? I am so embarrassed and ashamed when I look back at how I used to lead and communicate.
Over the years, I have read books, gone to seminars, and gotten advice from everyone who would talk to me about how to deal with all the obstacles that come your way when you’re in charge. Whether you manage a team, run business, or just run yourself, it can be hard to figure out how to handle everything that comes your way. And as a woman in business, you can feel like you have no room to make any mistakes. I always feel like for some reason, women are not permitted to make mistakes. I actually had a man say to me once, “managing people is like taking care of children, so women should just be good at it”. *eye roll*
Lucky for you, you found my page! I have already spent years messing up. Sometimes epically so. All so I can share with you how to navigate those same situations with the poise and experience far beyond your years!
I dreaded going to work for YEARS. Yes, YEARS. Anyone else dreading every day? Bueller? Here is a short list of what I was dealing with at one point or another:
- employees that openly disrespected me; being on their cell phones, talking back, ignoring me
- employees being late or not showing up at all
- work not being done correctly
- work not being done at all
- not being able to do MY work because I was doing everyone elses
Does that sound like your life right now?
I really hope not, because it felt TERRIBLE and I would certainly not want anyone else to go through that.
But if all or some of it sounds familiar, I just want you to know that you are not alone. Every single person that is in charge of people in any capacity deals with this.
The good news is, THERE IS HELP!
I can help you:
- establish authority and respect among your staff
- navigate different personalities within your office
- manage YOUR manager
- make your office run more efficiently
- teach your employees to do their jobs effectively
- hire and train for success
- and MORE
